Tax Exemption

Some organizations can buy from Macorner without paying US sales tax.
If yours qualifies, send us your documents and we’ll set your account up — before you order, or after.

Submit a Tax Exemption Request

1. Who can apply

Resellers (B2B)

Businesses buying our products to resell, not to use. Sales tax is only charged to the final buyer, so you are not taxed at this step.

Nonprofit organizations (NPO / NGO)

Charitable, educational and religious organizations. Exemption for nonprofits is granted by each state, not federally, so it depends on where your order ships.

Government and diplomatic buyers

Government agencies and foreign missions. Send us the documents that establish your status and we will review them and guide you through the next steps.

2. Documents we need

If we believe that the Content identified in a notice is either not infringing, or we believe that we have the right to post and use such Content from the rights owner, the owner’s agent, or pursuant to the law (including as a fair use), we will send a written objection to the party that submitted the notice, containing the following information:

You are Business and marketing partners
Reseller (B2B) Resale Certificate and W-9 Form. Include your Sales Permit if you have one.
Nonprofit (NPO / NGO) Sales Tax Exemption Certificate and either a W-9 Form or your IRS 501(c)(3) letter.
Government or diplomatic buyer Any official document establishing your status — an exemption certificate, an official Purchase Order, or a Diplomatic Tax Exemption Card. We will review it and tell you what else is needed.
Please note:

Send documents as a PDF or a clear photo. Every field must be readable, with no cropped corners.

3. How to apply

Step 1: Send your documents

Submit a tax exemption request with the documents listed above. If you have not ordered yet, you can still send them along with the details of the order you plan to place, and we will check whether you qualify before you order.

Step 2: We review them

Expect a reply within 24–48 business hours.

Step 3: We set up your account

If you have not ordered yet — we create or update your account so tax is not charged, then send you the details. Place your order while signed in to that account.

If you have already ordered — we refund the tax you paid to your original payment method.

4. Before you send — things people often get wrong

A W-9 Form on its own is not enough

A W-9 confirms your tax ID; it is not a sales tax exemption document. It must come together with a Resale Certificate or an exemption certificate.

The shipping address decides which state’s documents you need

Tax is charged by the state your order ships to, not the state where your business is registered. A business registered in Washington shipping to Texas needs Texas documents.

Being a nonprofit does not automatically make you exempt

Each state decides, and not every state grants it. Your certificate must come from the state your order ships to, or be one that state accepts.

Your exemption certificate must name MA Commerce Inc as the seller

A certificate made out to another seller cannot be used for your Macorner order.

Expired documents are not accepted

Check the expiration date before sending — we will ask for a current copy.

Details must match your order

The organization name and address on your documents must match the buyer and address on the order. If they differ, tell us why before you order.

5. FAQs

Can you just apply the exemption if I tell you we’re a nonprofit?

No. We need valid documents on file before tax can be removed.

My order shipped to a state with no sales tax. Do I need to apply?

No. No tax is charged on those orders, so there is nothing to exempt.

My documents are expired. Can you still accept them?

No. Please send a current copy.

The name on my documents is different from the name on my order. Is that a problem?

Yes — we cannot process a request when the details do not match. Contact us before placing the order so we can sort it out.

How long does it take?

We reply within 24–48 business hours of receiving your documents.
